This is the kingdom of trade routes and brave warriors. This is the land famous worldwide for its richness in gold and lazurite. Archeological discoveries proved that the origin of agricultural civilization on this territory dates further before the 5thc. BC.
The earliest signs of culture appeared in the Stone Age.
-In the 4thc. BC Alexander the Great, having defeated Akhemenid military forces of Darius the 3rd, annexed the state of the Akhemenids and then Bactria to his empire.
-In 329-328 BC in Zariasp, the capital of Bactria, Alexander the Great received a proposal of peace and alliance sent by Bactrian monarch's and the king of Khorezm Farasman.
-Greek-Macedonian rule over Bactria lasted 180 years. Elements of Hellinism penetrated the culture of Bactria. Alexander the Great tried to conduct the policy of merging the cults of Greek and local gods.
-312-64 BC was the period of the Seleukids in power. After their collapse the new Kingdom of Bactria emerged on the place of the former satrap state. Hellenistic gods were worshiped side by side with the local ones. Buddhism and Indian gods glorified in hymns of Rigveda ranked high as well.
-In the 3rdc. BC on the cross of the roads running to India and China Termez town emerged, from where in ancient times the Nephrite Road started.
-The period from the 1st to the 4thc. AD was marked by Kushan rule, during which Buddhism became widespread in the Eastern Turkestan and Central Asia, especially in Termez, where big Buddhist architectural complexes Kara-Tepa and Fayaz-Tepa were discovered.
-In the beginning of the 4thc. the Eftalits replaced the Kushans.
-The period of the 4thc. - 5thc. is called the era of the Samanids.
-Turk Khanate ruled the area in 6thc. - 7thc.
-In the 8thc. Bactria with Termez became the part of Arab Caliphate.
-The Samanids ruled in the 9thc.-10thc.
-During the period of the Karakhanids and Seljukids feudal economic system developed.
-In 13th c. the area was conquered by the Mongols of Chinghiz-khan. The Temurids ruled in the 14thc. - 15thc.
-In 19th c. Termez became major frontier town of the south border of Russia.
Termez, being the town of the centuries-old history, is nowadays one of the major economic centres of Uzbekistan.
