India

India is the second most populous country in the world, with more than one billion people. It also receives four times as many tourists as any other country in the region. Since India is a former British colony, the atmosphere in many of the hotels and other public institutions is decidedly British.India has been described as "a nation of villages." While there are mose than 14 official languages (and 1600 individual languages and dialects) in India, Hindi and English are the principal official languages. Although over 80 percent of Indians are Hindu, Muslims number over 100 million. Despite Laws agains discrimination, the caste system still exists in India today. India is a very colorful and intriguing country, but it's very poor. The very hot climate during the summer and the lack of good hotel accommodations present problems to the travel agent who strives to minimize any discomfort for clients visiting the area. The lack of refrigeration and air conditioning in some sections of the country make it manditory to place tourists in the best hotels available. An alternative to the accommodations in India is a cruice to the region. Travelers can then have tha amenities they're accustomed to while still taking the outstanding attractions that India has to offer. In spite of some of the inconvenienties ancountered when traveling in this part of the world, there are many fascinating and beatiful places to see, including:
  • The beauty of Taj Mahal
  • The pink city of Jaipur
  • The holy city of Veranasi (Benares)
  • The capital city of New Delhi
  • The industrial cities of Bombay and Calcutta
There are many temples, mosques, and magnificent relics of ancient India, which are awe-inspiring to see firsthand.
