The Korgalzhin National ParkThe Korgalzhin National Park is the largest nature park in Kazakhstan located 130 km to the south west of Astana and occupies the area of approzimately 259,9 thousand hectares, and 198 thousand hectares of water land. Korgalzhin National Park is a very beautiful feather grass steppe. The territory of park is located in connection point of two large lakes Tengiz and Korgalzhin. Word “tengiz” in translation from Kazakh language means “sea”. In total area of water land covered by those lakes is 159 thausand hectares which is twice as larger as Zheneva Lake area, and water mineralization of those lakes exceeds the oceans salt levels by 5-6 times. The Korgalzhin National Park’s flora counts over 360 different types of plants, over 90% of which are grass plants. The fauna counts about 82 kinds of diferent birds 33 of which are included in the Red Book, such as black lark, great bustard, crane, gyrfalcon and steppe windhover. In this park is also a northern nesting of the pink flamingos. |
